PEACOCK, Dr. Gregory S. - Of Merritt, formerly of Clio, age 60, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at his residence due to complications from ALS.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, The Reverend George L. Cleaves, Jr. officiating.

Visitation 4-8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Cremation will take place following the service.

Greg believed in giving back to his community and did so in a great way.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Clio Community Council, Clio City Hall, 505 West Vienna Road, Clio, MI 48420 or ALS Michigan Chapter.

Greg was born in Flint on February 8, 1952, the son of Stanley and Virginia (Wood) Peacock. Greg received his D.D.S. from University of Michigan where he graduated 2nd in his class. He was a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon (Honorary dental fraternity for top 10% of all graduates in the U.S.) Greg was a member of the American Dental Society since 1976. He practiced at Faucher Dental in Saginaw for two years then began his own practice in Clio on April 19, 1978. Greg was a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a Fellow of the American College of Dentistry. He was on the Executive Board of Genesee District Dental Society. Greg was presented Boss of the Year by the Genesee District Dental Society in 1992. He volunteered to do dental work in Guatemala with his wife Susan, son Zachary and friend Allen Methvan through the Rotary. He donated free dental care to those in need for many years. Dr. Peacock was Treasurer for Clio Community Council for 25 years. He was instrumental in raising money for the “Fourth of July Fireworks” in Clio since it began. Greg served as Vice President of Clio Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Rotary in Clio. He was active in local and state politics. Greg was on the original committee that started the bike path in Clio. He was an actor with the Clio Cast and Crew for “Annie” and “Sound of Music”. Greg was a member of the Greater Flint Health Coalition. He received a Child Health Care Provider Award for Outstanding Child Care Advocacy in 2008 and was awarded the Service Above Self Award – Clio Rotary Club – Lifetime Achievement Award on May 8, 2010. Greg also received the Distinguished Service Award In Recognition and Appreciation of His Devoted and Tireless Service to Genesee District Dental Society and the Betterment of Oral Health of the Greater Flint Community. He was a member of the Clio Country Club. Greg married Susan Johnson on December 29, 2002. He loved to travel and was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying golfing, hunting, fishing and skiing. Dr. Peacock was forced into retirement in 2005 due to back surgery. Greg was committed to giving back to his community in everything he did.

son, Dr. Zachary Peacock and wife Dr. Carolyn Peacock;

daughter, Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) Peacock;

special step-son, Jason Johnson;

grandson, Gregory Harper Peacock; and Ryleigh Tobin who was like a granddaughter to Greg;

mother, Virginia Copenhaver;

sister, Cyndy and husband Steven Ruszkowski;

sister-in-law, Kay Omalia and husband Don Fochtman;
brother-in-law, Dick and wife Cathie Riddlemoser;
nephews, Justin and Jordan Ruszkowski, Derek Riddlemoser and Nick Fochtman;
nieces, Kristi Benevidas, Olivia Popal, Paula “Pebbles” Benevidas, Laura and husband Andy Pickard;
special neighbor and Godfather to Zach and Betsy, Paul Isles and compassionate caregivers, Diane McLogan and Sam Vanderlaan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Peacock and step-father Phillip Copenhaver.
