JEFFRIES, Nova - of Davison, MI, age 78, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2020. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held 1 PM Sunday, July 19, 2020 at the Jack N. Abernathy Regional Park, 402 Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation of charity of choice.
Nova was born in Denver, CO on September 6, 1941, daughter of the late Edward and Vera Freeland. Nova received her teaching degree from Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, SD. She taught typing, handwriting and various business skills. After teaching, Nova went on to pursue her career as a secretary for Guest House (a facility for those recovering from addiction). While working at Guest House, she was also an AA sponsor. Through her guidance and connection with those she helped, Nova built several friendships throughout the years. Nova celebrated 43 years of sobriety this year as well. Nova was at her happiest when she could help others, especially when seeing someone who she sponsored make a full recovery.
Nova enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with her son, Joel. She loved the peacefulness and serenity of nature. Her family always brought her joy and laughter, especially visiting and watching her grandchildren, Gabrielle, dance, play softball, and Nolan, play baseball and attend school functions. Nova also enjoyed the lunch dates and conversations with her daughter, Julie, before getting ill and was not able to go anymore. Nova will be missed dearly by her family and friends. The family cannot extend their appreciation enough for her special friend and caretaker, Paula.
Nova is survived by her children, Joel (Tiffany) Jeffries and Julie (Tom) Zak; grandchildren, Gabrielle Petrowski and Nolan Jeffries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Edna Freeland and brother, Jerry.
