Thelma Marie Mitchell of Holt, MI and formerly of Flushing, MI passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the age of 84. Thelma was born on December 28, 1934 in Flushing, MI, the youngest of five children to Leo and Jean (Cole) Gorzenski. She was a graduate of Flushing High School class of 1953 and went on to receive an Associate degree in accounting from Baker College. Thelma worked for Flint Surveying and Engineering, and Sugar Springs POA as a secretary and bookkeeper. She retired with her husband, Ben and moved in 1989 to Secord Lake in Gladwin, MI. Thelma’s artistic ability led her into teaching watercolors at her Gladwin home studio. She was a member of the Gladwin Art Guild for many years. She won numerous awards and ribbons for her paintings throughout Michigan.
Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Benjamin, and brothers Thomas, Donald, Harold Gorzenski, and sister Theda Charles.
Surviving are her sons, Jim (Vicki), Joe (Diana), and Steve (Karen) Mitchell; grandchildren, Eric (Erin) Mitchell, Crista (Doug) Reaves, Jerrod (Laura) Mitchell, Jaime (Curtis) Reed; great grandchildren, Cole, Cooper, Alex, Tucker, Ivey, Ella, Annabel, Charlotte, Ryker, and Mason; along with sister-in-law, Marie Gorzenski and numerous nieces, nephews.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home starting at 1:00 p.m. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Thelma.
