HURD, Robert Edward - Of Flint, age 94, died Saturday, April 25, 2015 at McLaren-Flint.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015
at St. John Vianney Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint, Father Thomas Firestone officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
Burial of cremains in Highland Cemetery, Gladwin, Michigan at 3:30pm, Friday May 15, 2015.
Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Genesee County or St. Luke’s New Life Center.
Memorial Visitation 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the Memorial Mass at the church.
Robert was born in Cambridge, Ohio on August 11, 1920, the son of George and Laura (Lemon) Hurd. He worked at Chevrolet in Skilled Trades for 33 years. On June 4, 2000, he married Shirley (Flanders) in Cambridge, Ohio. Robert was a former member of Sacred Heart and member of St. John Vianney Church. He was an Instructor and Honorary Member of the Flushing Pistol and Rifle Club and was a member of the NRA. Robert painted pictures and taught woodcarving classes in Texas. He was also a leatherworker. For over 20 years he was in Crime Watch in Flint and volunteered at the Flint Police Mini Station.
He liked working on cars. He was a very kind and gentle man.
Robert was always busy.
Surviving are wife, Shirley;
daughter, Laura Jean; L.J. Chambers;
grandchildren, Anita (James) Rochen, Teresa Wilson and Anthony (Ashley) Comeaux, Russell (Beth) Chambers;
5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Hurd.
