KING, Joseph L. “Joe” – of Davison, age 69, passed away April 28, 2016 at McLaren Select Specialty Hospital – Flint. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 2-8 PM at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. Cremation will take place following the visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held 11 AM Thursday May 5, 2016 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley St., Flint; Fr. Michael Williams celebrant. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Inurnment, with Military Honors, will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to The Foundation for Mott Community College, Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warriors or a charity of one’s choice.
Joe was born in Flint, MI on April 29, 1946, son of Lloyd and Evelyn (Williams) King and has been a resident of Davison for the past 38 years. A 1964 graduate of St. John Vianney High School, Joe enlisted in the Marine Corp in February 1965 for three years. He served 18 months in Vietnam before returning to the United States and going on a 4-month “military” Caribbean Cruise. On July 20, 1968, Joe married Linda Tackabury (of Flushing) at St. Luke Catholic Church in Flint; they have two sons, Chad and Devin. While working at Fisher Body, Grand Blanc, he took classes at Mott Community College, graduated in 1973. Additionally, Joe took college classes from Ferris State and Central Michigan University. He worked for General Electric for 12 years prior to accepting a position at Mott College in 1985 as an IT Manager. In August 2011, Joe retired from Mott College. Joe and wife, Linda, are members of St. John Catholic Church in Davison. Joe is a lifetime member of the Davison VFW Post #4087 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter #3 and a member of Davison American Legion Post #267.
Joe is survived by wife, Linda; sons, Chad and Devin (Tricia Brethauer) all of Davison; mother, Evelyn King of Flint; sister, Diana (Murray) Allen of Crestwood, KY; brother, Timothy of Flushing; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd F. King on July 5, 2013.
