Thelma Jane Larkin, 90, formerly of Reese, died Friday evening, July 21, 2017 at Edgewood Assisted Living in Saginaw. She was born April 1, 1927 in Standish, daughter of the late Walter and Baselice (Rashotte) Lentz. Thelma was a 1945 graduate of Standish High School and later graduated from Beauty College. She owned and operated Thelma’s Beauty Shop in Oscoda for several years. On January 25, 1947 she was married to Elwin W. Larkin at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Together they spent “sixty-five years marriage” before his death, February 26, 2012. Thelma worked as a Receptionist for her daughter, Dr. Medley A. Larkin for ten years. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese, was a great collector of antiques, enjoyed gardening, had a great sense of style, and enjoyed decorating. She also made the best pies. .
Surviving are her children; Michael Larkin of Reese; Thomas Larkin and his wife Colleen of Colorado Springs, CO; Dr. Medley A. Larkin and Renee Sundstrom of Bay City; Miriam Larkin of Ann Arbor; Linda Larkin of Perrysburg, Ohio; and Laura Rainey and her husband Eric of Destin, FL. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Taylor, Kathleen, Lindsay, Jeffrey, Leighton, J.P., and Channing, a special grand- niece, Wendy Muehlfeld, her special friends, Earl and Cheri Reinbold, Sue Bussinger, and Whitney Embrick of Heartland Hospice who lovingly cared for her. In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was predeceased by three half-sisters, Adelaide, Medley and Pricilla Ensign.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2017 from the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese. Father Alberto Vargas will officiate with Committal Services at 1:30 p.m. in the Pine River Cemetery in Standish. Mrs. Larkin’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw St. in Reese on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Liturgy. A Vigil Service will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Elizabeth Catholic Church or Heartland Hospice.
