Frederick A. Somers, age 71 of Flushing, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel with Pastor John Walworth officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and again Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
Fred was born April 4, 1943 in Lincoln, Michigan to the late Elgin and Estella (Reindbold) Somers. He attended Alcona High School in Lincoln, graduating in 1961. On December 20, 1985, he married Nancy Gervais in Mt. Morris. Fred retired from General Motors in 1991 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Auto City Eagles Club in Mt. Morris. He was a recipient of a double lung transplant from U of M Medical Center 22 1/2 years ago.
Fred is survived by his wife, Nancy; 3 children from a previous marriage: Carla (Phillip) Rosser of Durand; Todd (Janet) Somers of Lapeer, Robert Somers of San Francisco; grandchildren: Kyle Rosser, Tyler Rosser, Dean Somers and Emma Somers; sister, Mary Rivera of Lincoln and his loving dogs: Izzabell and Sophie.
He was preceded in death by both parents; sister, Sandy and brothers: Arthur and Edward.
