George, Harold L. - Age 82 , of Swartz Creek, died Thursday, June 16, 2016.
Funeral mass will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday, June 23 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 4413 Morrish Rd., Swartz Creek, Fr. Louis Ekka celebrant. Interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-9 PM Wednesday, June 22 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. A 7PM K of C rosary will be held followed by a Vigil Service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Those desiring may make contributions to PAWS Animal Rescue, the North End Soup Kitchen or Carriage Town Ministries.
Harold was born on September 20, 1933 in Flint to Joseph and Thelma George. After graduating from Mandeville High School, he was drafted into the Army during The Korean War, training as a tank driver/gunner. Harold was especially proud of his military sons, grandson, and granddaughters.
On June 30, 1956 Harold married the love of his life, Maureen Gannon. They shared a beautiful lifelong relationship lasting over 58 years until her passing in 2014. Together they had ten children. Harold was employed at Buick for a short period and later worked as supervisor of buildings and grounds for the Swartz Creek Schools, retiring in 1992. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, singing in the choir and serving as a member of the Knights of Columbus. His greatest passion was his faith and his family. Harold enjoyed building and remodeling homes, boating, camping, snowmobiling, gardening, and traveling to places such as Alaska, the Caribbean Islands, and Ireland. He also enjoyed taking his grandchildren to Disney World, while living in Florida.
Of those who knew Harold, he was a devoted husband, committed father, and grandfather instilling the highest morals and values in his family. Not only was he loved dearly by his family, but also by all who he came in contact with.
Surviving are his beloved children, Robert (Karen) of Flint, LTC (r) Joseph (Nancy) of Flint, Suzanne (Thomas) Kelley of Arlington VA, David (Rhonda) of Katy TX, Bonnie of Swartz Creek, Bridget (Roger) Berens of Grand Rapids, Harold "Chip" (Micheala) of Cadillac, John (Kelly) of Pickerington OH; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; his brothers Kenneth, Joseph, Raymond, and Ronald; and his fur babies Toto and Rusty.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maureen; daughter Mary; parents and brother Jerry.
