BOWEN, Charles D. “Charlie” – Of Swartz Creek, age 63, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at McLaren-Flint. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2016 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 4413 South Morrish Road, in Swartz Creek, Father Louis Ekka officiating. Burial in Crestwood Cemetery with military rites under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m. Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Charlie will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
Charlie was born in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late Arthur and Roberta (Lozen) Bowen, and was a resident of the Flint area since 1965. He married Margina Horton on June 29, 1974. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He served as a Boy Scout leader and also as a District Commissioner for the Scouts. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow, Knights of Columbus Council 6694 and American Legion Post 294. Charlie was employed by General Motors for 35 years, retiring in 2008.
Surviving are his
wife, Margina;
2 sons, Charles II, Christopher and wife Jessica;
granddaughter, Gwen;
siblings, Robert and wife Diane Bowen, Thomas and wife Kathy Bowen, Diane and husband Butch Youthers, Patrick Bowen, Mark and wife Kelly Bowen;
mother-in-law, Marjorie Horton;
sister-in-law, Bonnie and husband Charles Hiteshew;
brother-in-law, James and wife Sandra Horton;
several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Nancy Bowen in 1998, Michael Bowen in 2008; and sisters-in-law, Dana Bowen and Bobbi Bowen.
