LAYNE, Judy Maureen (Butler) – of Goodrich, MI, age 77, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024. A Funeral Service will be held 2 PM Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Josh Combs officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Inurnment in Great Lakes National Cemetery on a later date. The family will receive visitors 1-7 PM Saturday, November 2, 2024 and 1-2 PM Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The River Church, in Judy’s memory.
Judy was born in Greensburg, PA on February 3, 1947, daughter of the late Edwin and Mary (Dillon) Butler. She was a graduate of Lapeer High School Class of 1965. On October 9, 1979, she married McArthur “Mac” Layne in Flint, MI, beginning a journey filled with love and partnership. Judy was an active member of The River Church, where her faith and kindness inspired many. A skilled gardener and talented baker, Judy found joy in nurturing both her flowers and her family. Her home was a haven of laughter and delicious aromas, especially during the Thanksgiving holiday, her favorite time of year. Judy cherished the moments spent cooking and gathering with her loved ones, organizing memorable family cookouts that will forever be fondly remembered. She had a deep love for animals and an unyielding commitment to her family, always ensuring that everyone felt cherished and supported. Judy enjoyed reading her Bible as her faith, love for flowers, and her gentle spirit were a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her. Judy’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, reminding us to celebrate life, embrace faith, and share love abundantly. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her kindness, strength, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
Judy is survived by her husband, McArthur “Mac” Layne; 6 children, Denise (Tom) Russell, Ronnie Monette, Sara (Chuck) Abbey, Michael Pickard, David Layne and Missy (Brandon) Birmingham; 11 grandchildren, Michael (Briana) LeVoir, Josh (Chelsea) LeVoir, Kaylyn LeVoir, Cheyenne (Drew) Powell, Asia Titus, Penelope Abbey, Ryan Abbey, Lucas Layne, Weston Birmingham, Elijah Birmingham and Asher Birmingham; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 siblings, Joyce (Bill) Hetchler, Beverly (Dean) Rose and Jeffrey (Ruth) Butler; 2 former spouses, Ronald K. Monette and Orville (Dawn) Pickard; many other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Mary Butler; brother, Tommy Butler and granddaughter, Autumn Monette.
