Our beloved Judith A. (“Judy”) Carmody was born on December 30, 1933 in Detroit, MI, the only child of Arthur B. (“Art”) & Thelma L. (“Bonnie”) Leas. Judy met Richard F. (“Rick”) Carmody at Mackenzie High School on Detroit’s west side the late 1940’s, and went on to obtain her dental hygienist degree certification from the University of Michigan in the early 1950’s while Rick served in the Korean War. Together they were married on June 9th, 1956 at Bethany Baptist Church in Detroit, and moved to Livonia, MI in the early 1960’s.
In September 1962, their first son Charles A. (“Charlie”) Carmody was born, followed by their second son Daniel R. (“Dan”) Carmody in July 1967. In the fall of 1969, Judy & Rick moved to Grand Blanc, MI when Rick was named General Manager of the Flint office of Metropolitan Life. Together they built a new home in the Ottawa Hills subdivision of Grand Blanc that quickly became the hub of friendship and activity in the neighborhood, and was Judy’s home for 48 years. In May 1971, their third son Andrew L. (“Andy”) Carmody also arrived.
Judy & Rick were members of Berean Baptist Church in Grand Blanc where Judy enjoyed singing in the choir, managed the church kitchen for nearly 20 years, and remained an active member of the congregation for almost 50 years. Sadness arrived with Rick’s passing in March 1979, but Judy remained strong, continued to raise her three sons, and remained very active & engaged in her church and in the Grand Blanc community. Judy volunteered to lead several high school student classes, worked regularly at football & basketball concession stands, and contributed to millage campaigns and other efforts to improve public schools in Grand Blanc. Judy also remained active with her Bible Study, “Gourmet”, and Care Club groups for decades.
Judy enjoyed travelling and visited many locations across the U.S. & Europe, with Yosemite National Park, France, England, and Wales among her favorite destinations, as well as countless trips to Florida to visit family and friends through the years.
Surviving are sons, Dan and wife Teresa Carmody and Andy and wife Aimee Carmody;
daughter-in-law, Chris Carmody;
She also loved spending time with her eight grandchildren: Ryan (16), Jon (16), Adam (14), Olivia (14), Chelsea (12), Caitlyn (9), Reagan (9), and Alaina (6), who will miss their grandma dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rick and son, Charlie.
