AMES, Harold Austin - Age 87, formerly of Flint, MI, died Friday, February 19, 2016 in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Harold was born May 20, 1928 in Paris, Ontario, Canada the son of Austin and Hazel (Kennedy) Ames.
Harold graduated from Bendle High School in 1946.
He worked as a milkman for Sealtest Dairy, was a delivery route owner/driver for The Flint Journal, and sold insurance for Farmers Insurance Group. Harold had many hobbies and the many hours spent playing cards (bridge, cribbage, pinochle, poker, and solitaire) produced keen "card sense". Roulette was his favorite attraction at the casino. A born gambler, he enjoyed placing bets on dogs and horses at the racetrack. He enjoyed golfing and hunting and was an avid Detroit Red Wings hockey fan. He often played cards with fellow members of the Burton Senior Center. He was a member of Grand Blanc Chapter #507 O.E.S. and a lifetime member of Grand Blanc Lodge #571 F. & A.M.
Harold is survived by his five children: Pamela Eklund, Randy (Melaina) Ames, Mark (Laurie) Ames, Susan Ames (Frank Baker), and Amy Ames (Terri Porter); six grandchildren: Erik (Robyn) Eklund, Mark (Katie) Ames, Ryan Baker, Alyssa Ames, Austin Ames, and Alexander Ames; nine great-grandchildren: Avery, Elsa, and Annika Eklund, Paige Ames, Kennady and Jaxsin Diehl, Xavior, Stevie, and Mason Ames; and his companion Catherine "Kitty" Berry. Harold was preceded in death by his parents Austin and Hazel Ames, his wife of 54 years Marion (Martin) Ames, his son Scott Ames and his sister Adeline Procunier.
Cremation has taken place. Family will receive visitors at Swartz Funeral Home 1225 W. Hill Rd. Flint, MI on Thursday March 3 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Friday March 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Grand Blanc United Methodist Church 515 Bush Ave. Grand Blanc, MI.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in Harold's memory to the charity of their choice.
