Poehner, Elsie of Flushing, age 90, died Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Heartland-Fostrain. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Rev. Clifford Bira will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. at the church on Saturday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Leader Dogs for the Blind.
Elsie was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on February 15, 1925, the daughter of Wilfred and Vera (Halsey) Codling. She married John Poehner on November 18, 1944, in Oak Park and they were married for 50 years. Elsie worked as a Lab Technician at Detroit Osteopathic, Chicago Osteopathic, Tuscon General and was a volunteer at F.O.H. She enjoyed reading to the blind and being a volunteer for the Red Cross. She enjoyed writing and wrote a children's history of Flint. Elsie was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she was on the Altar Guild. She also was a member of the Flushing Area Senior Center.
Elsie is survived by her children, Sally and husband Brian McFarland of Howell, Judith Perez of Flushing, John and wife Kellie Poehner of Fenton; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2008 and her daughter, Lorraine Lamb in 1996. |
