Barbara Ann Thornton
Age 74, passed away at her home in Corunna, in the company of her family on February 22, 2018.
She was born on November 10, 1943 in Keener, Alabama to Roy Richard and Mary Jane (Wilson) Nail.
Barb was a 1962 graduate of Mt. Morris High School. She married James Thornton on November 10, 1962, in Flint.
She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
Barb was active in many things; in school she became a member of the National Honor Society, played French horn, was a Girl Scout, a Future Nurses of America and a musician with her Job’s Daughters Chapter. Later, she entered the order of Eastern Stars, became a Job’s Daughter’s guardian; was both a Girl and Boy Scouts leader, a member of the Corunna Area Jaycee’s auxiliary and a charter member of TOPS #1381. Barb accomplished all of this while practicing her main interest of cake decorating, where she became very accomplished and was widely known as the “Cake Lady”.
Barb is survived by her husband James (Jim) of fifty six years; children Craig (Deborah) Thornton, Jeffrey (Staci) Thornton and Amy (Aaron) Meade; grandchildren Parker Thornton, Paige Thornton, Addison Thornton and Abraham Meade and a sister, Brenda Evans Nail of Grand Rapids.
She is predeceased by both her parents.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at one o’clock pm at First Congregational Church UCC, 327 N. Washington St, Owosso.
The family will greet friends at church Sunday from 12noon until the time of service and afterwards guests are invited to a reception celebrating Barb’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barb’s name to Memorial Healthcare-Hospice.
