Gerald “Jerry” Leonard, 84, a lifetime resident of Lapeer passed away Saturday June 1, 2013. Jerry was born February 13, 1929 in Detroit to David and Mary (Cliff) Leonard.
Jerry graduated from Lapeer High School, class of 1948. He married Irene L. Barrett on February 20, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lapeer. Jerry served in the US Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated Leonard Brothers Gas Station (current site of Max’s Bakery) for 10 years. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service where he was as a mechanic at Pontiac Motors. Jerry was a lifetime member if the First Presbyterian Church in Lapeer.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irene Leonard of Lapeer; son, Richard (Ann) Leonard of North Branch; daughter-in-law, Tamara Leonard of Otter Lake; seven grandchildren: Jeremy (Sarah) Leonard, Julie (Dan) Wilcox, Krista (TJ) Rennie, Kendra Leonard, Aaron (Lisa) Leonard, Autumn Leonard and Theron Leonard; four great grandchildren: Tristin, Logan, Kina and Maya; siblings: A.W. Leonard of Troy, Jean Hanson of Flint and Shirley Moore of Lapeer. Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Robert Leonard; parents; sister, Dorothy Goodwin and his brother, David Leonard.
Visitation will be from 1-4PM/6-8PM Monday June 3, 2013. Jerry’s funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday June 4, 2013 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer with Pastor Todd D. Smith officiating. Burial will take place 10:00 AM Wednesday June 5, 2013 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Lapeer or Whispering Pines, AFC, Lapeer.
