Czerny, John Paul, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, of Saginaw, formerly of Flint, age 99, died Thursday, December 13, 2018, at Covenant Hospital surrounded by his family. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at St. Robert Catholic Church, Flushing, Michigan. Fr. Anthony Brooks will officiate. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Monday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church until the time of the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Hematology and Oncology Department.

John was born in Flint, Michigan on May 1, 1919, the son of John and Barbara (Mikolasz) Czerny. He married Marie Madeline Vermette on October 11, 1958, at All Saints Catholic Church by Msgr. Anthony Majchrowski. She preceded him in death on February 24, 2015. John worked for 45 years at AC Spark Plug as a Journeyman Electrician, Supervisor, and Quality Control Engineer. During World War II, he worked on B19 and B29 bomb sites and navigation systems and helped train flight crews. He spent many hours on Ham radio after receiving his license in high school. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and golfing. John loved cooking and was famous for his ribs, rotisserie turkey and homemade soups.

He is survived by his children, Denise and husband Randall Schmidlin, John and wife Sharon Czerny, Barbara Czerny; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Dan Michelson, Jaclyn and husband Sean O’Connor, Jessica Schmidlin, Jillian Schmidlin, Adam Czerny, Andrea Czerny, and Chad Czerny; great-grandchildren, Nora Michelson, Liam and Charlotte O’Connor; sister-in-law, Cecilia Clark; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Anne Williams, Stella McClure, Louise DuCharme, Mary and Jenny Czerny; brother, Josef Czerny; sisters-in-law, Theresa Beaubien, Jean Vermette, and Betty Vermette; brothers-in-law, George Williams, John McClure, Richard DuCharme, Paul Vermette, Joseph Vermette, Richard Beaubien, Bill Clark; and nephew, Joseph Vermette.

The family would like to thank New Hope Valley Assisted Living for their kind, compassionate care over the past three years as well as the Emergency Room staff at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw.
