Deacon Willie C. Fleming, age 69, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11AM, Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 2nd Chance Church, 1950 Burr Blvd., Pastor Derrick A. Aldridge officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Road. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM for visitation. Deacon Fleming now repose in the chapel of Martin J. Banks Funeral Home and may be viewed until 8pm Friday evening.
Willie C. Fleming was born September 22, 1944 in Terry, Mississippi, the son of Grant and Lela Mae (McDuffy) Fleming. He came to Flint in January of 1959 and graduated from Flint Northern High School. At an early age Will C. joined the Macedonia Baptist Church. He married Lela McSwain, the love of his life and joined Foss Avenue Baptist Church where he served with Security In Ministry. Willie worked as a machine repairman for General Motors for 32 ½ years. He was also a member of the Stevenson Lodge. In 2006, he joined 2nd Chance Church under the leadership of Pastor Derrick A. Aldridge where he served faithfully and diligently in security and as a deacon.
Willie leaves to cherish his memory loving wife, Lela Fleming; 4 daughters, Barbara (Alby) Winfrey of Flint, MI, Alice (Willie) Riley of Cypress, TX, Lisa (Johnnie) Montgomery of Ellenwood, GA, and Serena (Albert) Young of Flint, MI; daughter-in-law, Curtina Fleming of Flint, MI; 16 grandchildren, Jwan Jordan, De’Quan Fleming, Albert Young III, Willie & Amarion Young, Aaron Walker, Mario, Mariya, Zah'mier & Zamaria Fleming of Flint, Meliyah Murphy, Darius Powers of Cypress, TX and Shalisa Young of Missouri City, TX, Tashia Barton, Duwane and Diavione Montgomery of Ellenwood, GA; 1 great-grand daughter, Nasja Barton; parents, Grant and Nettie Fleming of Flint, MI; 1 brother, George (Shirley) Jones of Huntsville, AL; step-sister, Ruth Dobson of Jackson, MS; 4 aunts, Hilton Gordon of Vicksburg, MS, Clara Mae Traggs of Jackson, MS; Bennie and Dorothy Mae Jones of Forest, MS; 2 uncles, Bernard Fleming of Jackson, MS, and Joe Louis (Carrie) Jones of Mt. Morris, MI; 2 sisters-in-law, Elvina Walker and Mildred McSwain of Flint, MI; 1 brother-in-law, Harry Harris II of Peoria, IL; god-daughter, Alvita Rouser of Flint, MI; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews to include special friends, Robert Holbrook, Shirley Aikins, Jamie Williams, Theodis Hampton and James (Mildrene) Rouser.
Deacon Fleming was preceded in death by his son, Mario Fleming; twin grand-daughters; Zaniya and Zeonie Fleming; mother, Lela Mae; sister, Eddie Mae Harris; brother, Charles Jones; sisters-in-law, Hanna Jones and Lee Jewel Chapman; grandparents, Andrew and Rosie Fleming, Jim and Gladys Jones.
