Herbert S. Carlson, 88, of Grayling, formerly of Kalkaska, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Grayling Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. He was born on October 2, 1922 in Dodgeville to the late Harry and Josephine (Komula) Carlson.
Herbert served his country proudly as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a machinist for KLZ Screw Products in Detroit and Kalkaska Screw Products. Herbert loved camping and hunting. He was a member of the Kalkaska VFW Post #8684.
Herbert is survived by his loving children, James (Susan) Carlson of Novi, Vanessa (Norman) Beach of Grayling, and Delbert (Wendy) Carlson of Kalkaska; his dear siblings, Robert (Betty) Carlson and Carolyn (Roy) Mattson both of Houghton; 29 cherished grandchildren; and many precious great-grandchildren.
Herbert was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera Virginia; his second wife, Genevieve; and 4 of his children, Patricia Klett, Spencer Carlson, and Donald Carlson, and Nancy Reynolds.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 2-5 p.m. at the Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow at 5 p.m. with Pastor Bryan McInerney of the Church of the Nazarene officiating.
