“So, the world doesn’t have Dave Gilbert to kick around anymore. I’m gone! The grim reaper came for me on 11/11/2024. I bought the farm. I bit the dust. So I guess I’m off to the Promised Land eh? The Promised Land! Imagine!
Anyway, I was born the seventh of eight children to Sheldon and Beatrice Gilbert on August 27, 1940 in Benzie County. That is where I remained through my childhood years graduating from Frankfort High School in 1958.
After graduation, I was forced to leave my beloved home in search of employment and went south to the Grand Rapids area for a while and then a little further east where I found work with General Motors.
In between that time, I have was married and divorced more times than I care to mention and had 5 of the most wonderful children, 4 step children, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and a perfect little great-great granddaughter.
In 1994, I retired from Buick to spend more time golfing, bowling, fishing, gambling and drinking beer. My last 20 or so years were spent living with and testing the patients of my beloved little brother Fay – God bless him!
I do not want a funeral and there will be no viewing as my daughter refused my wish to “prop me up beside the jukebox when I die”! I chose cremation and will have my ashes illegally scattered back home, in some of my favorite places. Well-wishers are encouraged to grab a Keno ticket and a can of Busch, write a note of farewell on the bar napkin and drink up in my honor.
Memorial donations may be made to the Michigan Lottery and I hope you get a winner!
