HERRMANN, Earl Gordon. – of Clio, age 80, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at his residence after a courageous battle with pancreatic and liver cancer. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. A living celebration of life was held on Earl’s 80th Birthday at Lake Ogemaw. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In memory of Earl, contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice or University of Michigan Cancer Center.
Earl was born September 3, 1936 in Flint, Michigan to the late Alfred and Ruby (Gordon) Herrmann. He graduated from Petoskey High School in 1954 and Michigan State University in 1959. Earl worked many jobs throughout his life. They included: teaching school, Operating Superintendent for Sears, owner of Herrmann Hardware, owner of Neelands Hardware, and co-owner of Bishop Auto. Earl married Virginia “Ginnie” Sears on November 12, 1993. His great joy was working on his classic cars at the Farm Store on Tuesday nights and spending time at Lake Ogemaw, where he earned the title “Mayor of Poverty Bay”.
Surviving are: Wife, Ginnie Herrmann; Children: Douglas (Bev) Herrmann, Katrina (Bruce) Rutter, Andrew (Judy) Sears, and Kara (Tony) Kujawa; Sister, Patti Worth; 8 grandchildren (especially his 2 special buddies: Mike and Brandon); 8 great grandchildren; Business partner, Don Bishop.
