STODDARD, Lewis Charles, Jr. –Of Flint Township, age 85, died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at his residence.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at New Life Christian Fellowship, 2237 East Reid Road, Grand Blanc, Reverend Bob Roberts officiating.

Burial in Crestwood Cemetery with a military graveside service under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made New Life Christian Fellowship.

Visitation 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.

Mr. Stoddard will be at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service.

Lewis was born in Flint, Michigan on December 29, 1927, the son of the late Lewis C., Sr. and Iva Stoddard and was a resident of the Flint area all of his life.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II from 1945-1948 and then served in the Air Corps from 1950-51 during the Korean Conflict.

Lewis married Donna Vader on June 11, 1949 at Lincoln Park Methodist Church.
He was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship.

He was a volunteer fireman for 17 years at Flint Township Fire Department.

Mr. Stoddard served in the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years and received the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver (a National Award) and was the committee chair for the Shooting Star Division of The Tall Pine Council.

He enjoyed hunting, hiking and playing cards.

Mr. Stoddard was past Post Commander for Leo R. Crow Post 8236. He was a bus driver for Carman-Ainsworth Schools for 6 years after retirement.

Lewis retired from Fisher Body after 31 years of service and was a member of UAW Local #581.

Surviving are wife, Donna;

three children, Sydnie and husband Michael Rust of Flint,
Lisa and husband Mitch Herriman of Las Cruces, New Mexico and
Jeffrey Stoddard of Flint;

three grandsons, Matthew Stoddard Herriman,
Joshua Stoddard Herriman,
Scott and wife Cathy Stoddard,

two bonus grandchildren, Jeremy Herriman and Jodi Sanders;

13 great-grandchildren;

sister, Juanita and husband David Dilloway;

several nieces, nephews, cousins;

God-children, Margie and husband Rob Robinson, Robert and wife Patti Cousins;
New Life Christian Fellowship family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna; brother, Richard; in-laws, whom he cherished, Fred and Dorothy Vader.
