FARELLA, Michael – of Clio, MI., age 89 died Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Medilodge of Montrose. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Saints Charles and Helena Catholic Church in Clio Michigan. Rev. Fr. Kenneth Coughlin officiating. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Wednesday from 12PM-8 PM and at the Church on Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 9:30 AM until time of the Mass. A scripture service will be prayed at 7PM on Wednesday. Memorial contributions can be made to Saints Charles and Helena.
Michael was born December 21, 1929 in Sannicandro Di Bari Italy, to the late Saverio and Mary (Racanelli) Farella. He received education in Italy and after immigrating to the U.S. went on to trade school for Tool and Die work. Michael served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. On February 11, 1956 he married Mary Jane Warda. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2011. He was a member of the Saints Charles and Helena Catholic Church. Michael was employed with Buick for 43 years retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Sons of Italy organization, enjoyed gardening, traveling Europe and the U.S., and golfing. Michael was a regular for years at Tony’s restaurant in Birch Run and was nicknamed “Captain Mike” by family and friends. He loved and enjoyed his family.
Surviving are: Daughters: Julie (Leonard) Alexander of Clio, Gina Farella of Clio, Joanne (Joel) Shurell of Midland; Grandchildren: Trevor Farella, Taylor Farella; Nephews: Nick Farella, Frank Farella; Nieces Angel Hanzal, Natalie Farella; God-daughter: Tina Marie (Mark) Miller.
