HOWARD, George “Bill” “Pops” William Jr. - Of Flint, age 65, went to sleep here on Earth and woke up in Heaven on Friday, June 20, 2014. George, known to many as “Pops” or “Bill”, was the son of the late George William Howard Sr. and Phyllis V. Howard.
George grew up in the Grand Blanc area and attended Grand Blanc High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1969, where he spent a year fighting in the Vietnam War. When George returned from the war, he was hired into General Motors where he worked at Buick in Plant 31 as a machinist, and was a member of UAW Local 599 until he medically retired after 33 years of service, in 1999. George was married 3 times in his life. He had 4 children, and many step children. He always maintained a loving bond and friendship with his second wife, Connie Howard and mother of two of his children. Bill loved working on cars, especially hot rods, and was known as the neighborhood mechanic. He met many people and maintained lasting friendships through this hobby and formed a special bond with his youngest son Shane who he mentored in the garage and in life.
He was known as “Pops” because he also mentored many neighborhood kids, and friends of his children. He was known and respected for his kindness, nonjudgmental ways, advice and generosity. His door and his heart were always open to anyone in need and he loved and cared for others more than himself. George loved the Lord and rededicated his life a year ago, spending hours learning, praying, and building his relationship with his Heavenly Father who he now walks hand in hand with. His legacy of love will live on through his children he leaves behind to cherish the memory of him.
George was preceded in death by his best friend, Pete Branch and his great grandson, Tyler William Howard.
He is survived by his daughters; Lisa Fisher and husband Jared Fisher and daughter Tamara Allison; His sons, Jason Howard and wife Karrie, and youngest son and best friend, who was also his caregiver and by his side to the end, Shane William Howard; step-children, Joshua, Sara and David Howard, Lacey Brookshire, Brandy Roderte and Ricky Staley; His grandchildren; Cassie, Chelsi, Dylin, Chloe, Rachelle, Shane, Chayton, Joeseph and Levi; great-grandchildren, Kaynin Barajas and Emma Howard; sisters, Janet and husband James Grenay; and Chris Curtain and Ginger Howard.
