ELLIOTT, James Bernard “Jim” - age 83, went home to Jesus on Thursday, June 21, 2018. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held 11AM Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 520 Butler St., in Clio. Vicar Maxx Fisher officiating. Burial in Thetford Township Cemetery to follow. Family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 2PM until 8PM and Saturday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Messiah Lutheran Church or Youth Haven Ranch-Michigan Campus.
Jim was born on December 4, 1934 in Meade Township, Michigan to the late Wallace and Josephine (Schmitt) Elliott. He was one of eleven children. He was united in marriage to Ardith Rathje, at Hayes Methodist Church on December 28, 1957. She preceded him in death December 20, 2017. They resided in Beecher for fifteen years after having five beautiful children. They moved to Clio, Michigan in 1972 and resided there the rest of their lives.
Jim joined Messiah Lutheran Church where he served the Lord mowing the lawn and ushering. In 1996 he retired from AC Spark Plug Division of General Motors with 43 years of dedicated service. He was a proud Irishman who loved John Wayne and old western movies, A&W Root beer and chocolate chip cookies and milk. Jim was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and camping trips with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a man of few words, but always had many tales to tell from his childhood, hunting trips and great family adventures. Jim, Dad, Grandpa and Bumpa will be truly missed.
He is survived by his children: James Carl (Karen) Elliott, Kim (Dale) Vincent, Thomas (Etta) Elliott, and Pam (Greg) Emmendorfer; 12 grandchildren: Mike (Jenny) Hensel, Katrina (Jon) Moore, Zachariah (Sam) Hensel, Ryan (Bethany) Hensel, Colleen Hensel, Jamie McCartney, Joshua (Melissa) Elliott, Ian, Sean & Erin Elliott, and Brandon & Colin Emmendorfer; 13 great grandchildren: Madisen, Layna and Cadence Moore, Philip & Eli McCartney, Jack and Ezra Elliott, Kristopher, Karter and Arianna Hensel, Brayden Hensel, Mikayla and Jaxton Hensel, Nira Warren, and two more on the way; Sister, Bernice Spindler. Jim was also preceded in death and ready to be united again with the love of his life, Ardith; Son, Timothy Brian; Brothers: Henry, Duard, William, Wallace Jr., and Albert; Sisters: Mary, Helen, Hazel and Anna.
