MESSLER, RICHARD M. “DICK” – Of Grand Blanc, age 86, died Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at McLaren-Flint.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Mr. Ron Kenney officiating.
Burial of cremains will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Great Lakes National Cemetery under the auspices Marine Corps League, Flint Detachment #155 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Marine Corps League, Flint Detachment #155.
Visitation 10:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Richard was born in Flint, Michigan on November 18, 1937, the son of the late Robert and Irene (Prieur) Messler. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954-1958. He married Jewell “Judie” Mitchell at Asbury Methodist Church on July 4, 1959. Richard was a member of the Marine Corps. League, Flint Detachment #155 Honor Guard. He was a member of South Mundy Methodist Church. He was the first hockey referee in Genesee County. Richard was employed by Chevrolet Manufacturing as a Suggestion Administrator.
Surviving are wife, Judie;
sons, Stephen Messler, and Daniel (Deanna) Messler;
granddaughter, Danielle (Colin) Cushman;
great-grand-daughters, Addyson and Alivia Cushman.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, William Curts; brothers, Robert and James; sisters, Dorothy and Alice.
