PAGONIS, Mitra (Papalazarou) – Of Burton, age 60, fell asleep in the Lord on October 27, 2024 at home peacefully with her family.
Mitra fought a long battle with breast cancer since 2009 with amazing courage and grace. Mitra was born in Flint, MI on November 26, 1963 to the late Alexander Papalazarou and Maria (Nedanis) Green.
Mitra graduated from Carman High School in 1981 and went on to study business at Ferris State University. Mitra was a hurdler on the track teams at both Carman and Ferris State.
On July 3, 1994, Mitra married the love of her life, Taso Pagonis and they recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Together, Taso and Mitra owned and operated Olympic Coney Island and later, Kickers Sports Bar and Grill. Mitra was well known as a hard worker, and the number of loyal regulars that patroned both businesses are a reflection of her attentive service. She genuinely cared and made an effort to know anyone she came in contact with.
Mitra had a strong faith and was a lifetime member of both St. Nicholas Orthodox Church and Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
Those who knew Mitra loved her contagious smile, unique laughter, and quick- witted sense of humor. Mitra was direct and honest, and she always had your back. Her thoughtfulness and attention to the little things about people is what made her most memorable. Mitra remembered everyone’s birthday, their favorite things, and you could expect a check-in text or call from her if she hadn’t heard from you in a while.
Mitra had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel, dance, sing (loudly), watch old movies, bake amazing treats, spend time with family and friends, and watch sports. But her biggest passion was college football. And her happy place was at the Big House in Ann Arbor, cheering on her beloved Michigan Wolverines with her special tailgate crew.
Mitra is survived by her husband Taso Pagonis, mother Maria Nedanis-Green, sister Lena (Tasho) Vassiliou, nieces Ivanna and Natasha Vassiliou, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and Kickers Family. She was preceded in death by her father Alexander Papalazarou, step-father Roger Green, and her in-laws George and Voula Pagonis.
Mitra, you will be sadly missed, and are loved so much, by so many. You will always be in our hearts. Go Blue!!
