PECK, Mary Louise (Weir Cummins) – Of Flint Township, age 95, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Swank Home in Swartz Creek.
Mary was born on April 1, 1918 in Royal Oak, MI.
She married Richard F. Cummins in 1943. Widowed in 1957, she became a teacher and taught at Dowdall Elementary School in the Kearsley School District for over 20 years. She was a most devoted and conscientious educator and was admired for her many skills in the classroom.
She was late only one time during her teaching career, which was due to a faulty alarm clock. Thereafter, she set two alarm clocks each night to ensure that she would never be late again. She was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. She treasured her many decades of membership in Sigma Phi Gamma sorority, where she made numerous lifelong friendships.
She married Chester J. (Chet) Peck in 1964. They shared a full and wonderful life together enjoying a multitude of friends, traveling and frequent family gatherings.
In retirement Mary and Chet enjoyed their winters in Clearwater, FL, where they kept up a robust schedule and continued to cultivate many friendships.
She leaves her husband Chet; daughter, Elizabeth Cummins (Max) Dean;
son, F. James (Anne) Cummins;
grandchildren, Richard F. Cummins and Erin Cummins (Rory) Kessler;
sisters-in-law, Charlotte Eddy and Janice Weir;
brothers-in-law, Max Peck and Ted (Dorothy) Peck; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Lloyd, Andy and Ted Weir.
Throughout her entire life, she always put others above herself. Her dedication to her family, friends and students have made the world a better place for all those that she touched with her kindness and generosity.
Per Mary’s wishes there will be no visitation. Private service for the immediate family will be held.
