Russell Arthur Wahl, Jr., age 90, of Owosso, passed away Thursday, March 31st, 2011 at Memorial Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 4, 2011 at Mowen Funeral Home - William A. Scarlett Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike A. Prince, Corunna Church of the Nazarene and Rev. Richard Wahl officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors perforned by members of the American Legion/VFW Honors Squad. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 3rd from 1 PM to 3 PM & 5 PM to 8 PM, at the funeral home.
Russell was born in Owosso, Michigan on April 15, 1920, the son of the late Russell Arthur and Corinne Elizabeth (Shook) Wahl. He married Edna Jo Brown in Owosso on June 7, 1941; she predeceased him on November 30, 2006. Russell was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1946. Returning home, he became a truck driver. He owned his own tractors and leased them to the former Douglas/Blue Arrow Trucking in Owosso (now the site of Chrest Plumbing). He loved to go fishing and to drive around northern Michigan to look for elk and locally, watch the deer. He loved searching the lake shores for stones of interest and polish them - exposing their beauty.
Those who cherish his memory include: children, Sandra (Travis) Farris, Russell Wahl III and Sandy Underwood, Lynda (Wayne) Carpenter, Darlene (Chris) Seymour; nine grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Tom (Paula) Wahl and Rev. Richard (Marilyn) Wahl; sisters, Dora Mae Kolb and Sharon Dickinson; several neices and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
