Dr. Chester “Chet” A. Francke, age 87, of Flint, formerly of Saginaw, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 17, 2020 in Hale, Michigan.
He is survived by his loving children; Steve (Andrea) Francke of King, NC and Laura (Tom) Francke-Zupko of National City, Michigan. Adored grandchildren; Courtney (Luis) Estrada, Travis Decker and Savannah Decker. Dear great-grandson; Luka. Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.
Chet was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years; “Renie”, who passed away in 2008. His siblings; Leonard N. Francke, G. Stewart Francke, Helene Francke Fritz and Marion Quesnel. Very Special friend; Sue Day.
Chester was born on May 7, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Leonard N. and Marion (Hawkins) Francke. He graduated from Saginaw High School, served our country with the United States Air Force and achieved his Bachelor’s, Masters and Ph.D Degrees from The Michigan State University. He married Norma Maurine “Renie” (McClay) on February 28, 1958 in Saginaw, Michigan and shortly after moved to Flint where they raised their children and were active in the community.
Dr. Francke, BS ’54, M ’65, Ph.D. ’75, began his career with General Motors holding several executive positions. He retired as Executive Director in Industrial Relations after 35 years of service. Francke was Chair of the Michigan Foundation of Education Leadership, served on the Michigan State University Alumni (MSUAA) Association National Board of Directors for five years, was elected President in 1989 and passed away as a life member of the MSUAA President’s Club. After his retirement from General Motors, Chet was Vice-President of Quality Learning Systems International and is former President of the Carman School District.
Chet was an Elder, Usher and active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Flint. He enjoyed Big Band and Jazz music, was member of the Flint Swim & Racquet Club and was an avid Michigan State Sports Fan. SPARTAN FOR LIFE!
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 27, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church in Flint, Michigan and officiated by the Reverend Paul Ytterock. The family will receive guests at the church from 1:00 PM Friday until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Chester to either the First Presbyterian Church of Flint (www.fpcf.org) or Michigan State University (www.msu.edu).
