Duane was born November 28, 1922 in Elba Township, MI the son of Alexander A. and Mable L. (Richards) Wagner. He married Dorothy A. Barber on March 13, 1943 in Davison, MI. She died February 15, 2000. Duane was a Dairy Farmer his entire life. He was a lifelong resident of Elba Township farming 1 mile from where he was born and raised. His love and passion in life was his farm and family. You could see Duane from sunup to sundown riding his golf cart to watch the deer, turkeys and to check his fields. He loved the smell of the sweet earth in the spring. Duane was still driving tractors to work the fields and rake hay. No one dared to tell him that he couldn’t. Duane was a member of the Michigan Milk Producers Association for 52 years, and held various positions in both Farm Bureau and MMPA. He was a trustee for Elba Township, a board member for the Greens Corner’s Cemetery, member of the Oddfellows, and President of the Cobb School District until it closed. Duane graduated from Davison High School in 1940, holding the record for the mile on the Davison Track Team. He was an avid Euchre player, loved to fish, deer and coon hunt with his family. He loved the Detroit Tigers and was a University of Michigan fan.
He had beautiful blue eyes and a smile not to be forgotten by his survivors. His 5 children, Roger (Marsha), Susie (Larry) Norfleet, Sharon (Joe Jackson), Vickie (Joe) Smetanka, Greg (Wendy); 11 grandchildren, Pam (Joe) Ruth, Lynne Wagner, Roger (Michelle) Wagner, Kim (Andy) Norfleet, Michael (Jena) Norfleet, Kenny (Angelique) Lawrence, Kyle Lawrence, Scott (Susan) Wagner, Zach, Aaron and Jacob Wagner; 6 great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Julia Ruth, Ryan, Grace, and Evangeline Norfleet, Selah Wagner; brother, Robert “Jack” Wagner of Davison.
