Ralph "Harvey" Cottenham, age 79 of New Lothrop, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at his home after a long journey from a stroke suffered 18 years ago. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Love Chapel in Bancroft. Pastor John Walworth will be officiating with burial to follow in Fremont Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 2-8 pm.
Harvey was born June 30, 1937 in Durand to the late Ralph Lee and Maretta (McDowell) Cottenham. He attended Durand High School, graduating in 1955. Harvey served his country faithfully in the United States Army, being honorably discharged in 1958. On June 19, 1969, he married Helen Henige in Saginaw.
Harvey worked for Grand Trunk Railroad for 40 years, retiring as a Brakeman and Conductor in 1995. He enjoyed running his backhoe and crane, watching TV, casino trips and hunting in his younger years. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Mr. Cottenham is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen; 4 children: Lynette (Larron Jones) Jackson of Chesaning, Kimberly (David) Paradise of Lincoln, Ralph Harvey Cottenham II of Saginaw, Susan Cottenham of Saginaw; 12 grandchildren: Dustin Whitehead, Samantha Whitehead, Kyla Jackson, Marenda Jones, Lewsi (Andrew) Benton, Dale (Rushelle) Ogilvie Jr., Amanda (Jason) Smith, James Lewis, Ashley (Steven) Iken, Keith Cottenham, Brittany Cottenham, Jennifer (Andrew) Piotrowski; 7 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Forest (Virginia) Cottenham of Bancroft, William (Norma) Cottenham of Durand; 5 brothers-in law and 1 sister-in-law and their spouses.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Cindy; mother and father-in-law, Albert and Louise Henige; son-in-law, Jim Lewis and sister-in-law, Joyce Henige.
