BOWDEN, Dexter Dick. - Age 86, of Lennon, died Thursday, November 13, 2014. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, November 17, 2014 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. The Rev. Russell Merrill officiating. Interment will follow in Yerian Cemetery. Visitation will be held the funeral home Sunday from 1-4 and 6-9 PM and Monday from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Those desiring may make contributions to Lennon Fire Department or the Lennon United Methodist Church.
Mr. Bowden was born November 5, 1928 in Lennon, the son of Harold and Virgie (Perry) Bowden. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Bernita Elaine Marble June 9, 1951 in Lennon. Mr. Bowden had been a Mail Carrier earlier in his life, then he owned and operated Bowden Body Shop in Lennon for many years. He was the Lennon Fire Department Chief for 31 years, and served for 50 years total. He also was a member of the Lennon Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernita; 3 children, Richard and wife Kelly Bowden of Lennon, Diane and husband Terry Kindell of Carbondale, CO, and Julie and husband John Bohan of Snowmass, CO; 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; brothers, Jerry and wife Judy Bowden of Swartz Creek, Jack and wife Ruth Bowden of Florida, and Milo Bowden of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
