Jones, Allen “Rudy” of Grand Blanc, formerly of Flushing, age 93, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Brookdale of Grand Blanc. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Blanc. Burial will be at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday at Rossell Funeral Home and 9:30 Tuesday until the time of the Mass. There will be a time to share memories at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Holy Family Catholic Church.
Rudy was born in Waterville, Maine on November 15, 1924, one of seven children born to Perley and Lucy (Jewett) Jones. He married L. Lucille Powers on February 13, 1942, in Flint. She preceded him in death on November 9, 1987. Rudy was a graduate of Flushing High School. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. Rudy was employed by General Motors for 46 years. He was a lifetime member of the Flushing V.F.W. Post 5666. Rudy was active in many drum corps, including marching with the Flint Skylarks Senior Corps and leading the Flint Guardsman Junior Drum and Bugle Corps. As a co-founder of the Flushing Athletic Boosters, Rudy was a verbally animated Flushing sports fan in the 60’s and 70’s and also coached Flushing Girls Softball. Together with Gay Gelisse, they enjoyed spending winters in Mesa, Arizona and dancing. Rudy was an avid golfer and someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Gay Gelisse; children, Janice Payne of Flushing, Doug and wife Gladys Jones of Vassar, Phil and wife Sherry Jones of Chelsea, Dannie and wife Lubna Jones of Linden, Cindy Jones and Bo West of Flint; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and sister, Ernestine Hardesty. |
