MITCHELL, Paul Alvin -- Age 89, of Flushing, died January 7, 2015. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, January 12 at West Court Street Church of God, 2920 W. Court Street, Flint. Interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be held 12:30 - 6 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road Swartz Creek, and 10 AM Monday at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Diabetes Association, Parkinson's Foundation or West Court Street Church of God.
Paul was born July 9, 1925 in Holcomb MO, the son of Eli and Pearl (Joyner) Mitchell. He was a graduate of Flint Central High School and went on to GMI. Paul was a Veteran of the U.S Army serving in WWII. He married Betty Harvill on April 9, 1949. He retired from GM - Fisher 1 in 1987 , he had worked in Quality Control. He was wonderful husband and father. Paul was a member of the West Court Street Church of God where he served as an usher for nearly 50 years, taught Sunday school, and was the assistant coach for the church basketball team. He volunteered his time with the Red Cross, the Boy Scouts, and as head timer for swimming at the YMCA. He enjoyed playing the guitar.
Surviving are: wife of 65 years, Betty; children, Rod (Kristy) Mitchell, Pam Dahl; grandchildren, Lyndsay Mitchell, Perri Mitchell, Brent Dahl, Jeremy Dahl; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Mitchell; brother, Ed (Val) Mitchell; sister, Donna (Earl) Fake; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son Dan Mitchell.
Paul's family extends a special thanks to American's Hospice Care and Lela his caregiver.
