David Joseph Fortier, age 74, of Burton, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Genesee Care Center. As per his request, David has been cremated. The memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Swartz Funeral Home. Family visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Patient Fund at GENESYS Hurley Cancer Center or the Genesee County Humane Society.
David was born in Flint on January 26, 1942, the son of John and Victoria Fortier. He married Katherine Pietrusinski, the love of his life. His wife and older brother Ralland survive him.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, his sister Elaine and younger brother Jerry.
Dave loved people and spent his life helping others. He worked many years in the computer industry at Buick, Burroughs, and Honeywell. He then decided to open his own business, The Twisted Rim Bicycle Shop, where he sold and repaired bicycles. He also sold bicycle and exercise equipment.
Upon retiring, Dave managed the Grand Blanc Huntsman’s Club. He also served on the club’s board of directors for many years.
Dave really enjoyed shooting sporting clays and skeet, especially at the GBHC. On Wednesdays he loved going to the gun club to shoot clay targets and visit with his shooting buddies. On Thursdays he would be at the club early doing volunteer maintenance work. Dave was well known for the beautiful custom wood pens he made.
Dave always had a smile on his face and a joke ready to share. He will be missed by all those who knew him.
