Virgil Allan Brewer- age 74 of Farwell, passed away on Tuesday February 5, 2013 at McLaren Central Michigan Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. Virgil was born on July 16, 1938, the son of Virgil David and Eva Bell (Rogers) Brewer in Flint, MI. He proudly served with the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959 with the Seabees RNMCB26, and the Reserves for 26 years. He a member of the original commissioned crew onboard the USS Monticello and the USS Taconic. He married his wife Sandra on December 23, 1968 in Flint; MI. Virgil worked for General Motors at Fisher Body #1 in Flint and was a UAW Local #581 member. Virgil was a member of Liberty Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was best known as a foster parent for over 40 years and also a foster grandparent for many years in the Clare County area and at Farwell Elementary School. He has received many special tributes and Congressional Recognitions from both Clare and Isabella County Commissions on Aging for his volunteer work with Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs. He was active as a Soccer Coach, and Band Booster; a member of Lake DAV Post #105, and Bingo Chairman. His volunteerism and philosophy of always giving back will be sadly missed. He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Virgil R. Brewer, Gary Allan Phillips of FL., two daughters Anita Moquin of Clio, Robin Hughs of Saginaw, a sister Dalberta McField and husband Wayne of Mt. Morris, seventeen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, foster children Ryan Thompson of Lake, Ashley Coon of Mt. Pleasant, dozens of foster grandchildren, a very special friend Felix Lyons, and his dog Tiny. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sandra, two sons Daniel and Neil, and two brothers Dennis and Frank. A funeral service is planned for Saturday, February 9th at 11AM at the Liberty Baptist Church, 6007 Mansiding Road in Lake. Pastor Peter Gellatt of Liberty Baptist Church in Lake will officiate.
