EDINGTON, William F. of Flushing, age 98, died Monday, October 21, 2019 at Fostrian Assisted Living. A private service for the family has taken place.
William (Bill) was born in Champagne, Illinois on February 26, 1921 to Will E. and Hazel (Binford) Edington. He graduated from Greencastle High School in Indiana. He went on to earn his BA Degree from DePauw University and his MA Degree from Wayne State University. Bill was a Professor and Department Chairman at General Motors Institute/Kettering University and was selected as Professor Emeritus of Humanities and Social Science. He was a veteran of the WWII Army Air Corp.
He is survived by his children, John Michael (Elaine) Edington, Donna Edington Neall, Nancy (Gregory Baragwanath) Edington, Steve Edington, and Joanne (Max Henry) Edington; and grandchildren, Matt Edington, Elena Edington, and Laura Edington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen.
Bill provided leadership and education to the youth in the Flushing community through Little League, Boy Scouts and Band Boosters. He served on the Library Board and served the School Board in addition to other civic and cultural activities. In his later years many knew him for his passion for cultivating day lilies and his photography.
Both Bill and Helen were wonderful parents. They also loved animals and Helen worked with several animal rescue organizations for many years. She excelled at creative and artistic activities as well.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Nature Conservancy or the Humane Society. |
