Elmer J. Couture passed from this life surrounded by his children at 6pm Saturday 8th of June 2019, after a long battle with cancer. He missed his 93rd birthday by just 16 days. His life was filled with passion and determination. His stories were epic and his life was full. He was called the Plumber man, dance man, father, husband, grandpa, papa and friend.
Elmer served his country in Italy during WWII and in civilian life he lived mostly in Pontiac until his move to Goodrich for about 30 years, then on to Davison for another 19. When he returned from the service, he was a truck driver and cab driver for a few years, then apprenticed with a plumbing and heating contractor. He eventually went to work for Pontiac Motors in the late 60s and then opened his own “Elmer’s Plumbing and Heating.” When most folks were retiring, he was doing plumbing or some other odd job.
Elmer loved boats, fishing, hunting, and learning anything new. He also had a passion for dance as a healthy way to relieve stress and keep the body moving. Those who attend the senior citizen dances across the county know Elmer for his camera and red solo cups. His real passion was his family. He was pre-deceased by his parents, siblings and daughter Sharon Kirkland. He leaves behind daughters; Teresa Krawczyk, Julie Carpenter, and Bonnie Moulder (TJ), sons; John Couture (Lisa), Dale Couture (Tammi), and Matthew Couture, His grandchildren: Sandy, Crystal, MaryFrances, David, Andrew, Joey, Christopher, Heather, Maria, Danielle, and Ben. He also leaves behind 16 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Elmer had strong opinions and was seldom afraid to share them. His knowledge was vast and as he said, “I’m jack of all trades and master of few because a day is wasted if you don’t learn something new.”
Memorial Celebration Dance will be held at the Swartz Creek Masonic Temple from Noon to 5pm, Saturday July 20th 2019. Bring your memories of Elmer and a willingness to dance with his friends and family. |
