Newton D. Altizer

Born: 7/21/1932
Died: 11/18/2019
Age: 87
Community: Flint, MI

ALTIZER, Newton D. - 87, of Flint, Michigan went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, November 18, 2019, while surrounded by family.

He was born on July 21, 1932 in War, West Virginia to William Riley and Ethel (Baldwin) Altizer.

After serving his country as an Army Sergeant during the Korean War, he married Patricia “Bonnie” Cruey in 1955 and moved to Flint, where he served as a committeeman at General Motors for over 25 years before retiring in 1987.

Newton was an avid fisherman, who loved to tinker and fix things and create things, as well as gardening and telling jokes.

He will always be remembered as a great cook, especially for his dumplings. There was never anyone who just had one serving, and we always requested them for Thanksgiving, it was a tradition.

He loved laughter and always had a joke ready to share with whomever he met-including the surgery staff, who was about to operate on him for a quintuple bypass! The joy of the Lord was truly his strength, and he found his greatest ministry in serving as a deacon in the church and sharing the gospel.

He loved to quote Scripture and had a faith that could move mountains, often stopping to pray for whoever needed it. He was very devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved nothing more than to take them out to Taco Bell, where he could spoil them silly.

His favorite quote was “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”
Newton is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia;

his loving children, Toni (Dale) Webb, Tina (Tim) Richmond and Tara (Roger) White;

grandchildren, Brittany Easterly, Jodi (Wystan) Crismond, Jaret (Alexis) White and Carman Richmond;

great-grandchildren, Kennedy Crismond and Emerson Crismond;

siblings, Mary (Ernest) Wood, Evelyn Leonardo, Delores (Jack) Woodard, Janice (J.W.) Mullins, Wanda (Eddie) Thomas and Russ (Carol).

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Jack; sisters, June and Linda.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2019 at Central Church of the Nazarene, G-1261 West Bristol Road, Flint, Jaret White, his grandson officiating.

Mr. Altizer will be at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the service.
