Lucille Belle Szabo, age 80, of Au Gres, Michigan, formerly of Shiawasse County, passed away Sunday evening, January 12, 2020 with family by her side at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City, Michigan.
Lucy was born October 12, 1939 in Flint, Michigan to the late Lelan and Eunice (Van Shick) Springer. She married Donald Joseph Szabo on August 10, 1963 in Flushing, Michigan and together they raised two children. Lucy was well known as the owner of Kirby Corners Store near Corunna, hosting numerous events for the community. She and Donald were also foster parents for more than twenty years, sharing their love and kindness with over 150 children. A voracious golfer and a talented artist, Lucy was an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Au Gres, and assisted her husband with the Knights of Columbus. Her love, kindness and indomitable spirit will be remembered by so many.
Lucy is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Donald; a daughter, Susan Dwight; a son, Scott Szabo; her grandsons, Nathan Dwight and Ryan Dwight; her sisters, Jean Moore, Sharon Guyer, and Gloria Williams; and several nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her step mother, Annie Springer; her brother, James Springer; and her sister, Marjorie Rayburn.
Visitation for Lucy will take place 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, Friday, January 17, 2020 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 415 South Court Street, Au Gres, Michigan. Funeral Mass will begin at Noon at the Church with Fr. Thomas Kowalczyk officiating. According to Lucy’s wishes, cremation will follow. She will be laid to rest in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Cross Children's Village, St. Mark's Padre Fund, or a mass card in memory of Lucille or a loved one.
