Mary Rose George of Flushing, age 88, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at St. Robert Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry St., Flushing. Her son, Fr. Francis M. George, will officiate. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass Tuesday at the church. A Vigil for the Deceased will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, you are kindly asked to make donations to one of her favorite charities in her memory: Children’s Miracle Network, Hurley Hospital Auxiliary or St. Robert Catholic School Education Fund.
Mary was born in Flint, Michigan on December 5, 1924, the daughter of Walter E. and Rose M. (Fekete) Wing. She graduated from St. Michael High School in Flint in June of 1942. Mary married Francis Mac George at St. Michael Catholic Church in Flint on July 26, 1958. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2000. She was employed for 19 years at Fisher Body #1 in the Main Office Payroll Department. Mary was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church and Catholic Council of Women. She had been a member of Hurley Hospital Auxiliary since 1972. Mary was a former member of the Alpha Iota Society. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, home making, traveling, spending time up north, casinos and eating at restaurants. Mary was kind-hearted and socialized with many throughout her life. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and always remembered numerous people at Christmas time through gifts and cards.
Mary is survived by her son, Fr. Francis M. George of Howell; daughter, Carol A. George of Flushing; brother, Robert and wife Carolyn Wing; sister-in-law, Jenny Wing; brother-in-law, Frank Ropeta; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Pauline Wing, Victoria Ropeta; and brother, Walter J. Wing.
